What Is Lo Shu Magic Square?
A complete guide to the Chinese 3x3 grid, the 3 Planes of Existence, the 8 Arrows of Pythagoras, and Wu Xing Elements.
The Lo Shu Magic Square is one of the most revered keystones of classical Chinese cosmology and numerology. According to imperial lore, this sacred geometric pattern emerged from the waters of the Luo River inscribed on the carapace of a divine turtle, revealing a flawless mathematical order where any row, column, or diagonal infallibly sums to the sacred number 15.
In Astro Lúdico, Lo Shu is utilized to convert your birth date digits into an instantaneous energetic snapshot. It distributes numbers across 3 horizontal and 3 vertical planes, unveiling with surgical precision your intellectual focus, emotional equilibrium, and practical manifesting capacity.
What does the Lo Shu Square diagnose?
The Lo Shu Square arranges birth dates into a 3x3 grid to map: 1) The 3 Planes of Existence (Mental, Emotional, and Practical); 2) Arrows of Strength and Empty Arrows of Challenge; and 3) Balance across the 5 Elements of Chinese Metaphysics (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood).
The Myth of the Sacred Turtle of the Luo River
Over 4,000 years ago, according to Chinese imperial legend, massive floods devastated ancient lands. When waters receded, Emperor Yu witnessed a divine turtle emerging from the Luo River with a mysterious geometric pattern inscribed on its shell.

The Wu Xing 5 Elements Cycle
The 5 Elements of Chinese metaphysics - Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood - are not inert substances, but dynamic energetic phases in constant evolution. They follow two core cycles:
Generation Cycle (Sheng)
Each element nourishes and empowers the subsequent one, sustaining continuous vital flow:
Water nourishes wood, enabling plants to grow
Wood fuels fire, providing combustion
Fire creates earth through ash
Earth produces metal within its depths
Metal condenses water on its cool surface
Control Cycle (Ke)
Each element regulates and tempers another, preserving systemic balance:
Plant roots penetrate and stabilize soil
Earth dams, absorbs, and channels water
Water extinguishes and cools fire
Fire melts and reshapes metal
Metal cuts and carves wood
